Default 2010 demo/leftover

I found a sweet looking 2010 JKU Mountain at my local dealer. It has 2503 demo miles. They told me they would give me 16,500 for my 2009 2 dr X and gave me a price of 29,000 for the JKU. Does this seem fair? I told them go to 27k and I'd do it. Thoughts?

Go to 27 technically its still considered a new vehicle but they can do better. I'd take it for 27 or even 27.5. Its a good looking Jeep.

$29k seems steep for a "new" 2010.
$27k is better, but I would think that given the bank concessions they receive for holding on to a "new"vehicle that long... you can get it for $26k.

The 29k seams steep to me. I don't know much about the mountain or any of the options it has.

For 2011, it's similar to the Mojave in terms of equipment. New model year saw Jeep ditch the Islander and Mountain nomenclature for Mojave, IIRC.

I have a good family friend who owns a dealership here in Denver. They told me once the vehicles hit a certain number of miles it cannot be called new. I believe its in the ball park of 1,000 miles. considering its a 2010 and they're releasing 2012's I'd talk them down. they have no need for a "used" 2010 at this point. just my 2c...

For reference... the dealership in Santa Fe, NM has a 2011 Rubicon discounted to $29k....original MSRP was something like $39k....I think they can/should do better.

Or you can check in to the one in SF

Laws do vary by state, but if the vehicle has never been titled (to anyone beside the bank the holds the vehicle for the dealership) it can still be sold as new. The miles and the passing of a another model year create a stigma though, and dealerships try to mitigate the mileage put on demo vehicles because of such. What goes on in the background is that the dealership, effectively, writes off or depreciates the holding value of the vehicle once it has hit a certain age and the probability of selling it at the held amount is unlikely. Typically, that magical point is approximately one year after arrival to the dealership. With this monthly write-off, they have leeway with the bank to sell the vehicle for much less than what they "paid" for it. Think of it as creating another form of holdback.

That being said... the vehicle, to the dealership, is worth much less than the $29k they quoted you... and, probably, less than the $27k we are kicking around.
