Default 2010 Mopar Soft Top Install

Well I just finished up installing my 2010 soft top on my JKU.

For anybody ordering one after the fact, it comes in pieces unlike the ones tucked up inside the Dual Top Jeeps.

As always the directions stink, and give yourself the good part of a day to do this if you are flying solo and it's your first time.

The biggest PITA was getting the fabric to sandwich between the upper and lower headers.

Also taking off the doors would is a good idea as you are in and out of the Jeep a bunch of times.

I was going to take pics as the directions were horrible, but since I was flying solo it was hit or miss the whole way, and I never knew what to photograph as most steps had to be repeated 3-4 times.

In the end I like it a bunch and now will be building something to store my hardtop. Either the cart or the hang it from the garage ceiling option.

If anybody else is doing a 2010 soft top and has questions, feel free to ask.

Cheers

Kidding ... but seriously, this would have made a very helpful write-up had you taken pictures and posted all. Think 'wrong way' vs. 'right way'.

Anyway, glad you got it sorted out.

Hi

Agreed, but i could barely hold back the f-bombs after it took 6 times to get the header right... let alone hold a camera

Like I said if anybody has 2010 soft top install questions I am more than willing to help out.

...oh and a pic

Cheers

Sorry to hear you had such a hard time with your soft top. It seems like a lot of us Jeep owners have wrestled with a soft top at some point and almost felt like they lost. LOL Glad you got it on and hey, it looks great.

I had the dual top option and it still took the better part of 4 hours to get it set up the first time. Congratulations on winning the fight and not completely losing your mind in the process!

Hey.... I just installed the 2010 soft top on my jk. It wasnt a terrible process but I ended up with one problem... For some reason i cant seem to get my side windows to fit properly with my doors. When i close the back doors the window seems to pop out a little. Do you have any advice on how i can fix this?

a word of warning when you buy a new jeep with the dual top option... check the soft top boxes to make sure they are for the right model before leaving the dealership.

i picked up my new 2010 unlimited two nights ago, so the first thing i did when i got home from work yesterday was to install my side steps, take off the hard top, and then install the soft top (i am sure i can find a few top-down days before new england winter sets in). i go to set up the soft top, and i found out the dealer put the boxes to a 2 door soft top. talk about a cock tease for our 80+ degree weather this afternoon. i will say, windows down and the freedom panels off was still pretty cool.

anyways, the dealership is an hour and a half away... so they had one of their guys drive up to me to switch out the boxes.

hopefully i won;t have too much trouble setting up my soft top tonight when my brother gets here to give me a hand.

that 90 degree angle of plastic strip on the leading edge needs to be pulled around into a U shape, and put into the channel in the surround.

Easiest way:

1 - with the window completely removed, attach it to the zipper and only start the zipper 1"
2 - get that plastic strip tugged around and into the channel
3 - pull the leading edge downward, and get the bottom edge into the body channel
4 - do the zipper the rest of the way up
5 - go back and make sure that the leading edge is fully seated in the door surround.

It's hard the first time, but once you see how good and tight it all fits together, you'll be impressed with the design.
