2011 jeep
Mixing diesel and gas in the same vehicle! Sheez.
Get real!
Here is my interpretation of all the recent Chrysler & Allpar hints:
Chrysler lists major changes for both the 2011 and 2012 model years.
What do we know about the 2011 changes?
Jeep is looking at releasing the 2011 Wrangler in late June or early July of 2010. I am thinking June of 2010 is too soon to expect a new interior and exterior. So my best guess is that 2011 will only be a powertrain update offering the new Phoenix V6 or the new Fiat Diesel. More details one these engines can be found on Allpar's site.
What do we know about the 2012 changes?
As for 2012? Puzzling out the new powertrain hint for 2012 has been less straight forward. Keep in mind that Hummer is now owned by the Chinese, and the new Hummer is pushing forward with new vehicles to directly compete with Wrangler in 2012 or 2013. This should provide Jeep with incentive to improve Wrangler drastically by 2012.
Allpar provides details of a 7 speed dual clutch automatic tranny in the works for rear wheel drive vehicles. Could this be the new powertrain option hinted at for 2012 along with the new interior and exterior? This possibility would make the most sense as it would improve both fuel economy and acceleration and all indications are that Crysler is looking at these new trannys as an advantage over the competition. The only other possibility is that Jeep would introduce a 3rd engine option beyond the V6 Phoenix and the Fiat Diesel. Looking at the remaining Jeep engine options in the Chrysler arsenal the only other real possibility would be a Hemi. Rumors are that Hemis were considered for 2007 JKs, but the Hemis did not pass crash tests. Could it be that the body and interior redesign include enhancements to allow for a Hemi to pass crash tests? I would love this if it were true, but it’s probably just wishful thinking as a Hemi option would not take Jeep in a green direction and would put the MSRP much higher, and therefore would not make good business sense as a Hemi JK would be expensive; meaning Hemi JK sales volumes would be relatively low.
My bet is the new powertrain Jeep is hinting for 2012 is the new 7 speed auto tranny. Other 2012 changes are likely to be the rumored new interior and exterior.

There is also mention of an 8 speed dual clutch tranny planned for rear wheel drive vehicles. It is sounding like that new tranny is a ways off.
I also found this quote that I think explains a lot, talking about the new Phoenix/Pentestar engine, "The 3.6 pumps out 280 horsepower without direct injection, in its first iteration, without MultiAir (which will be added)"
I now think the 2011 Jeeps will get a Pentestar without MultiAir. The rumored new powertrain for 2012 will likely be the Pentestar with MultiAir not the new tranny as I speculated earlier.
I've heard about several engine options, but nothing confirmed. Also of Chrysler/Fiat's outline for the next several years, they say in 2011 the wranger will get a slight exterior refreshing, & and an all new "Dramatic" interior. But the article doesn't say what the refresh or interior will consist of. So who knows? Have to wait for the 2011 models to show up.

I can confirm that the 2011 JK production launch is currently set for the first week in September of 2010. The diesel is set to start 5 weeks later.

I hoping the the fuel economy with the diesel is in the mid 20's
With 218 Hp and close to 400 ft lbs of torque that will truely be an off road beast..
I think I read in another post a little while ago that they were planning to add the new engines to 2010's later in the year, is this true? or will it just be for 2011? And what's the new interior stuff they're talking about?
