2012 is basically just an interior upgrade
As far as I'm concerned ... Beyond the Pentastar upgrade ... The "new" Mercedes (W5-A580) 5 speed auto transmission is enough reason for getting a 2012 . It is BY FAR a better design (you can't beat German engineering) and SOOO much more reliable and MUCH heavier duty.
Damned be that wimpy 4 speed 42 RLE !!! Good Riddance!!

The Pentastar is more hype than anything. It won't make your balls any bigger or your wife into a hottie again and won't get you to wherever you're going any faster than you would have with a 3.8.
Sure it's a little bit more powerful, but it's bolted to the same drivetrain and jeeps are supposed to be about going slow over rough terrain.
What it will do is make you a little bit poorer, so if nothing else wait 'till the hype dies down and stop acting like you just invented beer if you've got a pentastar under the hood.

I honestly think there might have been something wrong with the one you drove. After finally getting to test a black Rubi unlimited auto this evening I would bet a considerable amount of money that at least a couple of seconds have been knocked off the 0-60 time.
Now you might say who cares about 0-60, but there are a ton of us that need a JK for daily driving duties. That means towing a trailer full of quads and being able to overtake slower traffic, that means highway on-ramp acceleration runs during rush hour, that means holding 75mph up a grade, all sorts of situations where that power will come in handy. And to everyone saying that "oh all the power is in the top end, it's worthless for offroading", get real, you could hook a damn 2-stroke to the Rubi transfer case it'll still spin up a set of mud terrains.
Anyways, point being anyone considering a '12 model should definitely check it. I think with the new interior and drivetrain the JK is finally a fully realized vehicle.
