2012 Wrangler information thread
The 2012 Wranglers are arriving on dealer lots today in the Philadelphia vacinity:O) Yesssss!! I will be ordering one this November, after the new "late availability" colors show up. Drove one right off the truck (Sahara Unlimited) and found it to be a bit quicker with more pull after say 30mph on up through the midband. What really struck me was the way the engine sounded....like a cat purring
Meow likes it alot. The new polished chrome wheels look great and not overdone at all. Otherwise it's the same as the 2011's. Winter Chill perhaps with the chrome group and Saddle leather?? Colors are posted on driveoffroad.com, FYI

Just picked mine up at Heritage Owings Mills. Good group of guys there. It's a 23S Sport with connectivity, power, Sirius, and tinted sunshade. I'm loving the additional power and it averaged 23 MPG on the ride home. I'm glad I waited for the Pentastar to take the plunge into Jeep ownership.

got to testdrive a 2012 4door Rubicon today.
What a difference over the 2010 I had. off line it feels a tad quicker (about the same). As soon as you hit 25/30mph, the engine trans really show their advantage. It pulls strong! Don;t get be wrong, it's no Hemi, but is quite a difference to me over the 2010. When you are doing about 40mph, and stomp it, it pulls strong as well. I did not get it up to highway speeds, but am hoping to in the future...if we can make the numbers work.
The onther things i noticed:
The rear compartment/ floor has a nice liner/ finish to it.
The hardtop has a different feel to it. I know in 2011 they changed it up some, but never noticed the difference in finsihed material or wider rear window. It's noticeable where the blindspot is back there. somewhat better.
Dash materials are soft/ padded. center council is padded too. no more smacking your elbow on that thing. lol
Power mirrors are a nice touch as is the climate control.
For those that want a more rugged feel to their JK's, the 2010 older fits that bill better. For those of us (like me) that want a more upsacale feel to it, this is better!!
This one also had the painted hardtop. gives the JK a different look. I'm still undecided if I like it or not. I can see scratches/ pinstipe buffing out easier...for those of us that wheel, but detail the hell out of our trucks when we're done.
"Tiptonic" shifting is fun! Anothe rnice feature I like with the new engine.
Engine bay is tight in there! Not much room for anything else. The throttlebody is up close to the front!!! however, the airbox/ filter looked to be in the same spot. I'm not 100% on the use of available snorkels or not yet. ...have to do more research on that.
Oeverall, I'm sold. If I can make the numbers work, I'll be out of my HUMMER and back into a JK again. If not, anyone that wants a built H2, come get this thing.

Picked up my 2 door 2012 Rubicon. No problems with TL Discount. Very smooth process. I did get the lifetime warranty. They assured me mods wont be covered but the stock items will be. Time will tell.
I was relieved to see it did NOT have chrome wheels. Everything else is as expected.
Im not going to go into the "is it better" stuff as I have never owned a Jeep before this. I love it. Once I get some mileage on it, maybe I can line up a drag race with an 11 Rubi and post the definitive results.
I left the dealer and found a nearby gravel pit to try out the 4 wheel, lo range, lockers and disconnect. Everything worked as it should. The auto-stick shifting works in hi and lo and is fun. I alread smacked that damn front "air dam" crossing some deep ruts. I already have an LOD front bumper and skid ordered so that plastic crap is on the way out.
A few pics, but it is currently 90+ and with the hot engine I did not take any under hood pics. It looks just like the others around here, crammed full of tubes, wires and what not. I dont see how dual batteries or under hood compressors are an option in there.
Tomorrow morning when it is cooler I will remove the hard top and see if I can figure out the jig saw puzzle of assembling the soft top...

I just did the true Pentastar test. I drove a 2012 and 2011 4dr JKs both 6spd w/ the 3.73. The 2012 kicked the snot outta the 2011. You dont feel it right at the start... but there is more power left after you get moving. I know that doesnt mean much. But as a daily driver and a weekend light treader... its a huge difference. If I was gunna just build a offroad beast... i'd save the money and get the 2011 at 0% and incentives... but i'm not.
I waited over a year for that 2012 test drive. It wasnt amazing... but it was what I expected and wanted to see. I think the best part... was waving to the 6 other Jeeps I passed.
If you waited for the 2012 great decision! You wont have to worry about being embarrased by mini vans

Just ordered a 2012 Rubicon Unlimited today about noon. Can't wait to get a VIN and start tracking. It was from a fairly large dealership so hopefully I won't have to wait too long. I do have one question. Need to look at steps for the wife. From what I can see the rock rails are not steps. Any ideas on maybe sliders that are steps also? I have done some searching and ACE seems to have some that really look nice. Any other thoughts?
