best quote ever!
"....proper wheel flares on the driver's side instead of the Rubbermaid-like plastic ones"

I still don't know how you could miss something like that at the dealer. Don't people look at the thing they are gonna drop 30K or so on?

Still, it's not like it would be hard to fix and I'm sure the guy paid exactly 0 dollars to have it fixed.

No one. But I heard that a bunch of employees had a lunch meeting at a local park to discuss the mishap.

Here's a thought...

The painted fender got damaged, dealer replaced it with something temporary, claimed ignorance and blamed the factory.

Piss poor management and workers who don't give a crap about there job.
I say fire them and giver their job to someone who wants to work, there are plenty of people out there that would kill for a good paying steady job these days.

auto assembly lines cannot be stopped. If you are installing flares and the parts dropped aren't correct, guess what- you install them. The DEALER is the final assembly point. Mistakes and omissions are expected to be repaired at the dealership. This type of mistake is NOT uncommon in the car business.

I'll bet that your speculation is spot-on. The way auto parts are packaged at the factory before assembly these days, it would be pretty hard in my opinion to get painted front AND rear flares on one side and non-painted older model front AND rear flares on the other. You would likely have to have one of each incorrect obsolete flare in 2 seperate crates of new parts that just happened to be on the assembly line at the same time for that to happen.
