Default 35" Tires

I have a 2007 Rubicon. Do I really need lower gears if I want to use 35" tires? If so, what ratio would you recommend?

I'll probably be going 4.10s when I go 35's.

Then again, I'm used to slightly less performance with my 3.21's and 30's. You may notice a decent loss in power, though.

If you're set on 35's, and regearing is a possibility in the future, just get the tires and see how you like it. If you can deal with it... then keep on jeeping!

If you're gonna pay to have them changed you're gonna be sorry with 35's and 410's... not only will it be a pain on the highway but your fuel mileage will suffer too.... most ppl get a mile or 2 better when they go from the 410 to a 488 and 35's because you don't have to use as much gas to get up and go and if you offroad it at all you'll kick yourself in the nuts.

With 35's I'd have to go with 4.56 with an auto, and 4.88 with a 6spd.
Just my opinion.

I'll be buying the rubicon axles. If I were just going for a straight gear swap, I'd definitely go for 4.10, but I'd be bolting the axles in myself. I don't have enough $$$ To do both.

According to the gear calculators, a 3.21 gear with 29 inch tires is about the same as a 3.9 gear with 35 inch tires. Factor in weight, and i'm sure a 4.10 will get me to around where I am now. And that's all I want.

I would think it would be the other way around.

You may be right. I'm just going over in my mind the gearing of an XJ. As I recall the same size engine, same size tires, autos came stock with 3.73 gears, however the 5spd came with 3.07. With that in mind.
HEHE! never mind You are right... I stand corrected.

But at any rate, I don't see how you guys are running 33's 35's and 37's with gears like 3.21, 3.73 and the likes, and still have any power. Like I said the wifes has stock wheels and 245/75/16 tires and I would like to have 4.56 instead of the 4.10's she has.

What kind of transmission does she have?

I find my stock 3.21 gears to be perfect for the 6 speed. I only have the 29 inch tires, but I can't imagine it being geared numerically higher. The thing want to take off in 1st as it is!

I also find it to be quite peppy. Above 2300, and the engine becomes a monster with lots of power.
