I used a heat gun and rubber mallot. After 5 min or so the shifter slid right down and could be removed.

I've got an 08 and it just presses on. It took me a while but the best way I found was to get a wrench slightly larger than the shifter rod, wrap a rag around the wrench to protect the knob, put it onto the rod right under the knob then beat the wrench from the bottom with a hammer! I couldn't believe how tight that knob grabs on!!!

Have a manual, and this is exactly what I did for both knobs, just be ready to duck when it comes off.

if you put it in 4low and sit on your center console and pull and jiggle it at the same time it will come off just make sure you keep your mouth closed cause you might lose some teeth when it finally lets go

Tap lightly to work it off easily. Or put a towel over it like you would with a Champagne bottle. I've done both of mine a bunch of times.
