Because 99% of the people who have jeeps don't need 500+ H.P. It's just overkill on anything other than a purpose built mud bogger or extreme rock crawler. I'm sure Chrysler would have to deny even more warranty claims on broken parts because some people don't understand the idea of laying off of the gas and finessing their way through. I'm also sure that MOST people would bitch endlessly about the price IF Chrysler built the jeep to produce and withstand that much power.
That's just my opinion, it may be worthless to most who read it but I believe it to be a damn good reason why they don't do it, too costly from every perspective.

They would have to be sober to come up with something like that.

VR38DETT is a Twin Turbo NISSAN motor for the GT-R. Great for the track but not rock crawling. Look at how high you have to rev the engine. Different application...but, nice damn car and killed the Porsche on the Nurburgring for half the price

If these stats are what excite you, loose the jeep and buy a ricer. HP and torque max out at 6400 and 5200RPM's! Thats not what we need or want. I wheel under 3000Rpm's. And who needs 196mph in a jeep? Give me solid power below 2500rpm's and I'm happy.

I agree this motor is overkill for the JK. But the "ricer" 3.8 almost puts out more torque in idle then our 3.8 puts out at any rpm. Mopar must love the fact that the JK is the only vehicle in the current market where people are lined up for a 15-20K engine conversions.

Compared to the numbers of people that are fine with what they have, I would bet the number of people (lined up) is a fraction of a percent. People have swapped hemis into 4.0l TJ's but that doesn't mean the 4.0l is a crap engine that didn't get the job done. It's just people with money to burn and proves nothing about the 3.8l. Just look at some of the amazing things you see on the project JK videos, I'm willing to bet a lot of those rigs have the 3.8l still sitting under the hood.

i really don't know about 500+hp but i would be happy with 350+hp UNDER $4,000 but thats not going to happen 500hp is overkill.
