Take a look at the bottom of a 2011 or 2012 and you will see the skid bar. Much less protection.

Or look here:

Yup, I've got the same modifications on mine, except for the center cross member. My Jeep was built in 06/10, so it would be affected. But in adding my skid plate, I think he just removed the old skid plate and attached the rear of the new skid plate to the existing cross member.

Either way, I think Jeep will tell us both that since we changed it, they won't do anything and they're not responsible if a fire starts in this area. Of course, I don't think this is what's causing Jeeps to burn in the first place and it's Chryslers's way of saying they fixed the problem. I think it's still related to an overheating, poor tranny cooling system, that may have bad hoses, and/or connections that fail spilling hot fluid everywhere. My HOT OIL warning went off twice before installing an adequate cooler. No problems ever since.
And look at how beat up mine is. Think of the damage I would have with no skid plate and that new bar. (and maybe I need more lift)

It is the B&M 14,400 BTU rated Automatic Transmission Super Cooler.
I know a good mechanic that's done a lot of these and just asked him to install what I need. I can do a lot of stuff myself, but didn't feel comfortable with this.

If you refuse Jeep from removing the skid plate then your insurance company will not pay for damage done to your car. Been there done that, with my 2000 Buick Regal that caught fire. The car was totaled and I did not receive a penny from my insurance company because they said I did not take my car in to fix a possible gasket leak that could cause fire (a recall notice was sent out prior to the fire).

Be smart guys, take it from a guy that has already been through this and take your Jeep in right away.

Pulled my affected skid down and found debris(small rock). Guess that little rock could have started a fire eventually.
