I think it illustrates the shift in society's knowledge of auto's. I know my dad could look at cars from the 50's and 60's and able to tell you the exact year that it was made due to the differences. People see something that looks built to go off road with 4 doors and automatically assume hummer. Hummer has gotten more press (mostly negative) and they see the military driving it.

I wonder how many Hummer owners get complimented on their "Jeeps". I expect, unlike us, they beam with pride when that happens.

Hummer is a derivative of the Jeep. Jeep came first, Hummer came second. There was a lawsuit, unsuccessful I might add, against Hummer for the grill being so similar to Jeep. H2,3 etc did have the four door first.

I've had it happen a couple of times, one in particular is the janitor at my kids school, nice guy in all, he asked me with a puzzled look on his face, is that a Hummer...I said, nope, its a Jeep, he was like Oh, ok, then he said, I like 2-door Jeeps. I was like

I have many people that tell me I have a nice Hummer.
I always ask them not to insult me, IT'S A JEEP!

BTW - I have a Black Unlimited Rubicon

When I first got mine the elderly woman next door came over and said, "Nice new vehicle! It's like a mini-Hummer!". I said, "No, actually it's like a big Jeep.". She stared at me for a couple of seconds then stared at my Jeep for a couple of seconds then stared at me again for a couple more seconds. "Oh... I really like your Jeep!" she replies.
She's a very nice lady.

4 doors are for people with kids.

That being said. My family has been a Jeep family forever.

My mom has a 4 door JK Sahara and all it ever does is drive from VT to FL, get groceries, and tow a commercial lawn mower. She always jokes that her "little jeep" could climb over an h3.

So I guess the challenge is this. Next time someone claims you drive an H3. Take that person and go climb over one. Then say "An H3 can't do this".

This thread really made me laugh, especially the quote above.. I do this all the time now that I added teh lift and 35s. Here in Denver, there are a ton of Jeeps on the road, but only so many modified. You do get "the look" and I love it, its an ego thing..

I've had one person tell me this, and I think it was my mom, "kind of looks like a hummer, because of teh "box" like shape." She was lucky she brought me in to this world or there could have been consequences.

I've had a few non-Jeep people comment "wow, it almost looks like a Hummer." As if I'm supposed to be honored that they think so. I reply "actually the hummers almost look like Jeeps."

Talking There's Cars, Trucks and then there's Jeeps...

Yeah, my first week i had mine back from mods, i was double parked in front of the Garbage Dumpster thingy at McDonalds. A very nice lady who worked there had to come into the McDonalds (because she was taking out the trash) and ask "Who owns the hummer parked in front of the dumpsters?" I felt insulted.
