AEM Intake - Chipped powder coat sucked into motor
I need help - I have an AEM Brute Force Air Intake that I noticed is chipped and missing the powder coating inside the tube right where the filter goes on. This was noticed when I pulled the filter to clean it.
I am working to get a new intake tube but my bigger question is what this can do to the motor. I don't know the exact size of the individual pieces that have been sucked into the motor but there is approx. 1" x 3" missing.
I believe this may have started to peel when I took my Jeep in for bodywork. They cleaned my motor and I think they may have used something that caused the powdercoating to peel (Hydro-carbon based...per AEM website). I noticed as soon as I picked up the vehicle that it was idling rough - the shop said they could find nothing wrong - back and forth for two weeks.
With that said, I need to know if I should have the intake taken off to look for debris and paint. Will this burn off over time or is there a concern that I have the intake opened and inspected.
Appreciate any feedback.....
