But a good aluminum weld that looks like dimes laying down is pretty...

mild steel is approx 53 kpsi... where 6061-t6 is 35kpsi. So basically your aluminum would have to be 50% thicker. So instead of using 1/4 in steel you are using 3/8 in aluminum. Aluminum is three times less dense than steel so that leaves you with a 50% weight saving on your bumper. Or if you had a 150 lb bumper made from steel, you would have a 75 lb bumper made from 6061 aluminum with equal strenght. If I had the money, I would go with aluminum.

From a person currently on the market for a bumper (me) - I would consider aluminum winch mount bumper in black but given the state of the economy price will be a HUGE factor. Plus I guess D-ring mounts will have to be bolt on steel...

im strongly considering an alum bumper build as well.

Mainly, the thought of adding weight to the jk is just rediculous.
Im surprised no one has done alum yet.

i drew up a simple plan, not sure yet, but basicaly cut alum in these pieces, then weld them together.

I would like them to make a full length bumper. That would be sweet.
