Question Aluminum Front Bumper

Anyone have or thought about making an aluminum front bumper? The company I work for has a plethera of plate, channels, and tube to create one. I'm considering it. At least it won't rust!

Strong, lightweight, cutouts for factory fogs, compatible with factory tow hooks, affordable and good looking - I'll take one.

....I'd take one too but I doubt I could afford it.

And for us DIY'ers what does 1/4" 6061 aluminum plate weigh compared to 1/4" steel plate?

Asked this same question when I first joined the forum. Never got an answer from anyone. Seems like a good idea to me. Plus the price of aluminum is waaaaay down from its peak last summer, just like oil.

I work at a machine shop and believe me, I've seen some pretty heavy duty pieces of aluminum gear. There isn't any reason why you couldn't make a pretty darn nice bumper from it.

I think it's a good idea as well. Might not be the best choice for the hard-core rock crawler, but for moderate wheeling it would be adequate. Much better than stock and save some weight.

I'm definately not hard-core, so I think it would be just fine!

1/4" Aluminum Plate = 3.66 #/sf
1/4" Steel Plate = 10.21 #/sf
