Anybody here go from a truck to a Jeep?
Hey guys...new here👋
Im thinking about making the switch. I currently drive an 02 Silverado ext cab and it’s coming to the end of its life. Been in trucks all my life except my first vehicle which was a 94 2 door Cherokee.
I have three kids and as they get a bit older they hate riding in the back(7yr old, 5yr old, and a baby). The rear bench in the ext cab is pretty tight for a booster and 2 car seats. I know a JKU wont be roomy but a quick test fit of my seats in a friends JLU tells me it’s still more roomy than the rear bench in my truck.
I don’t feel like I need a ton room personally since the Wife drives a minivan so we are good for long trips and other outings requiring more comfort.
Someone else has to have been in a similar situation before. Im wrapping up a remodel on our house and find myself needing a pickup bed less and less. I’m thinking a small trailer could do anything my truck does better.
So what do you guys think? I’m I dreaming here or is it doable? The wife thinks I’ll miss my truck in 6 months.

I had an 03 Chev 4wd reg cab short bed and went to an 18 2 Dr Jeep, I love it, the jeep is hands down better off road. I do miss the room of a truck bed, but I have a 5x10 trailer that I use if I'm going to the hardware store, nothing fits in the back of the jeep if you have the rear seat in, and just a little bit fits with the seat out.
a plus with the jeep is I can put two car seats in the back for the grandkids and my bride can still ride with us in the front.
My only complaint is not much room, but I knew that going in and I can live with it.
Probably will get another truck one day and still keep the jeep

I really do much “wheelin” but I do hunt and camp with my family and last year I got stuck more times than I care to admit in my truck while hunting. Nothing to bad but the old girl is 2wd so.......having two vehicles would be nice but I don’t want the maintenance. My truck is starting to turn up more broken parts than are worth fixing. Plus a trailer is cheaper to keep registered and no insurance.
the most off road my Jeep would see is a fire road. I live in Florida and I’ve beat on previous vehicles mudding when I was younger and don’t see myself doing any of that.....at least nothing crazy. This would be a DD most of the time around town and some highway.

Mine is a DD, I don't do a lot of off road, but it does get me through the deer lease and back roads, the deer lease roads that I would get stuck on in the truck , the jeep keeps on going, still factory tires and no lift, had mud tires on the truck.
i don't regret getting the jeep at all, but I do miss a truck at times, mostly just because if I'm already in town and decide to go by the hardware store or lumber yard, I have to go home and get the trailer instead of just throwing stuff in the bed

Between a full size truck and a jeep I would pick the truck. Todays trucks are so much better and roomier then what you currently have and way better than a wrangler in terms of ride, comfort, and ammonites. Plus you can actually tow with a truck. 3 kids in the back of a wrangler would suck.

I have a tundra and a Jku at the same time. Ride quality is no comparison. The tundra is so much better on the highway and tied loads so you don't even know they are there. The Jeep back seat is ok for two growing kids, but not very good for 3 kids. I never had a problem with the storage capacity of the Jku. I recently traded my Jku for a Jk and I certainly feel the lack of storage now! But I have no kids to haul. Tough choice.
you don’t know what you don’t know… But I don’t feel as though the ride quality of a jeep would be that much worse than what my truck is now. I should also tell you guys that my vehicle goes from the house to work and back. Most of the time if im running around with the kids I’ll take the van. My wife and I have gotten so used to doing this because the extended cab has that silly suicide door that you have to open the main door to even get at. Any vehicle I get is really going to be a two seater because once I cram three seats in the back bench the only thing left are the driver and the passenger.
Anyway you guys are killing me...I thought this was a Jeep forum?!?!?! your supposed to be talking me into a Jeep not out of one 😂. How am I supposed to show my wife this thread now🤷♂️

Well....you don’t know what you don’t know but I feel like a JKU would be as good or better than my truck. A tundra is the only one I’d consider. I’ve had two Tacomas, a sequoia, and an FJ in the family...we like our toyotas😬.
i should probably also tell you guys I drive to the work at the fire station and back home....and on days I’m running around with the kids I often have the van. I hate to say but those things are just so dang convenient. Between my wife and I whoever doesn’t have the kids will take the truck to keep the other from having to deal with that suicide door that the ext cab chevys have.
