Auto vs Manual
Well, add a notch to the score post for manual transmissions. Me was on a trail this weekend, far from many, and being in 4 LO, I put it in park, went to put it in reverse and no go. Put it in drive, still no to. I came across a forum with a thread on this and it seems to be a "glitch" or system check that occurs when in 4 LO. Only happened on 4 LO. I'll be digging in on this one to find the culprit and see if there is a fix.
Fluid is good
Wasn't over heated
Was on a slight off camber of about 15-18 degrees
Wouldn't re engage in 2 or 4 hi. Rolled back to level ground and eventually engaged.

I had my Wrangler in for service and they did a TCM, Transmission control module uppdate. I havent hade any problems with my automatic
I found this information, and I am not sure it is the same thing but could be.
"Delayed Drive to Reverse shift engagement when
the transfer case is in Low Range
(4LO) -
Rubicon Only."

I picked up a 12 JKUR with the 6 speed 2 weeks back. I haven't had a manual in about 11 years, and I actually wanted an auto (cause I'm getting lazy) but the price I negotiated made me reconsider.
Impressions so far:
For those coming from a sports car, the throw is long and the clutch is not what I would call "tight." that being said, it is light years ahead of my 84 CJ7's 5 speed, and most any other 1/2 ton truck manual I have driven. It shifts faster than any 3/4 ton I have driven as well.
After my long layoff, I was completely comfortable driving it within a few hundred miles of use. I didn't find it to be quirky on the 5-6 shift as some have mentioned.
Overall, I enjoy the hell out of driving the manual. the Hill-assist can be useful, but I turned it off because of having to ride the clutch a bit more than I would think is needed to take off from the same spot normally.
I like it so far- Is it as smooth as a manual? Absolutely not. Is it a pretty good platform when compared to other Truck/SUV offerings? I would say that it is above average.
