Bad diff or lunchbox locker? How to tell?
Asking for a friend. Is it possible to tell without opening it up? It seems to behave like a lunchbox from what I’ve read, but from what I’ve read it might also be a broken tooth on the spider gear. I drove it once and it’s the only time I’ve ever driven a vehicle behaving that way.
- Slight bang/knock seemingly from the back when accelerating from a stop
- Bang/pop at the inside rear track when turning slowly. The tighter you turn the more noticeable it gets.
She is in the Bay Area and bought an ‘07 from PA because she liked the color. Sight unseen. -facepalm- It has a budget boost, 33’s and a winch so I wouldn’t be surprised if the previous owner altered the rear end too. It’s an X. Lots of rust too.
