Some of the comments in here, that I have sensed before I bought my jeep, almost turned my off to the Jeep community. If a human being waves at me, I'm waving back. It's just common decency. Without fellow 4x4 enthusiasts, 4x4 as a lifestyle and hobby are dead in the water. Going to King of the Hammers is a good example. A giant 4x4 event, and people there didn't divide into manufacturer cliques like in high school.
Friendly ribbing once you hit the trails is one thing, but openly representing the Jeep community as one full of pretentious jerks is another.

The op has a choice to wave or not wave. I'm simply defending him because people started calling him an idiot for his choice. Too many people here want to tell everyone how to drive their jeep and what they should do in it. If someone doesn't want to wave so be it. If someone doesn't want to take the top and doors off so be it. If the people judging him didn't agree they should have moved on not make him feel like an ass.
