Default Black Wheels?

I am not an old man at age 31. Can someone tell me what the attraction is to the black wheels? In my 15 years of driving, I have seen the trends go from rust rattling stereos with limo window tint to 20" inch wheels with spinners on rubber bands. It seems to be a early 80's revival going on these days so when I saw that a new Knight Rider is on the television tonight, I remembered that KITT had black wheels. So what are everyone's thought on the subject? Please keep it civilized as I am not trolling, it's just something I have noticed.

Personally, I don't like chrome. I think it mostly stems from the fact that I want to distance myself from those cars and SUV's with the 22 inch spinning chrome wheels as much as possible.

For me personally, it all depends on the vehicle. Some look good with black wheels, others in chrome, some white, etc. etc. I think the big attraction to black wheels on jeeps is that they don't shrow rock rash as easily or at least are easy to paint and cover up, can' really do that with chrome, machined, or painted silver or other light colors with the exception of maybe white. The other reason is it looks more rugged, and less like a mall crawler.

I liked the big rims for a while but the roads around here don't like the big rims. I like black rims on certain things, not all. The vehicles I like with chrome rims, I can't afford. As for KITT, it should be a Trans Am. They could have waited til the end of the year for the new one. They replace it with a shitstang, how depressing!

The first set off black wheels I had(American Racing 767s) I got around 2000 for my TJ because at the time they were different and at about $40/rim the price was awesome. I still like the look too! I believe it has some roots in NASCAR too? Since then, there are so many options for black wheels.

I guess they look okay on some color vehicles, however our JK is black, and I don't like black on black. Don't like chrome either. Too distracting and hard to maintain.
I like the look of the alloy wheels, and maybe even the gun metal gray, however black is out for me.

I like the black wheel look on 4x4's not cars. In my opinion it gives a more rugged and military look.

Depends on the color of the car and the other accessories you have on there.
All my accessories are black but I didn’t like how all black rims looked so i opted for some aluminum color on them to put some contrast in there.

Now if my jeep was black or white i would have gone with all black rims. Then again that’s just my preference.
