It is quite a gap. Any possible reason for its existence? I plan to stuff it with a piece of foam pipe insulation, but I have to wonder why such a large space?

So, you go to a campground, pay a fee, and place the receipt on your JK dash. This seems pretty simple, until you discover that there's a bottomless slot between the dash and the windshield that will happily consume any pass, pen, or map you place there.

Anyone know how to access the bottom of this slot (pit). Anyone modify their JK to avoid this canyon? I can't believe that this design is intentional. Perhaps the designers never went into the outdoors where a permit on your dash is required.

Thoughts?

Thank you.

DG
Lower your windshield and that will increase the size of the gap and you should be able to retrieve anything you lost.

Yes, you were first. But did you actually help?

Got a link, suggestion, or other helpful advice? Search on what? "Black Hole" (403 hits)? "Windshield Gap" (95 hits)? "Dash Windshield"? (21 hits) - getting warmer. The problem with search is you gotta know pretty much what it is you need to search for. As the OP said, he wasn't sure if this was the right place to post this. So, if you have some links because you did the search and know the answers, please share.

Otherwise...

"Abyss". That was the word I was seeking. Keep your eyes peeled, as you might find the Lindbergh baby, or even Mr. Hoffa in that hole.

The pipe insulation works great, got mine in a coyote brown, works well with the kaki interior.

I'm going to hit the hardware store on the way to work. Do you actually place the dash edge into the insulation slit, or just fill the gap by pushing the insulation into the space?

Thanks.

I think its where the defroster air comes out of... I guess...

After you used the pip insulation, did you try running the defroster? was there any problems with air getting to the windshield?
