Default Bought or Built

When I first got into Jeeps (1989) there existed a battle of egos concerning whether or not you had your mods installed or put them on yourself.
Do these camps still exist?
Can someone who buys an AEV (for example) be accepted on the trails or will they be ridiculed as the "rich boy" that "bought their rig" instead of having built it?

Just curious,

Rob
(for the record, I really want an AEV built JK)

I've been the sole pair of hands on my JK for all the mods that have been done to it.... however I don't hold a thing against someone who bought their rig from a company like AEV.
I have no doubt that many of the people that bought their rigs are more than capable of doing the mods themselves, and I have no doubt that I will soon start working on mods that are over my head and I'll have to have someone else install them.

I'm proud of having done all my mods myself, but in my opinion that doesn't mean my JK is any better or I'm any better than anyone else.

Some people have talent to do mod's, some have the money. The lucky ones
have both. I'm going to do mine because I know how, does it matter on the trail ? Everyone's out there to have fun . I don't care if You don't do your own mods,it just means Your helping a fellow mechanic.
I would love to build a Brute.
If the Hemi is cheap I'm dropping one in myself. If someone dosen't know how........

I don't think it really matters, as long as they can make trail repairs

I cant begrudge someone for paying to have work done, there are many reasons why people do and do not do their own mods adn I say to each their own. I personally try to do all my own, but there are certainly some things that are beyond my skill level.

I try to do what I can, but since my Jeeps have also been my daily drivers I need them to be done right and asap. If/when my Jeep is a secondary vehicle I'll be more willing to try to expand on my own with repairs/mods, knowing that I'm not up against any time constraints or concerns about a break down/problem. As for others, I also say to each their own, everyone's got a different situation.
