The controls on the steering wheel is one the reasons I don't like the 2011 and 2012's. My jeep gets rained in entirely to much and with the controls on the steering wheel wouldn't be a good combination. So far I have no problems with the rain in the jeep with my 2008.

This is nothing new, ask a TJ ex owner like myself if they have ever had to replace a clock spring because of water damage
None of the interior electronics are sealed for water, its its fresh water however they may dry out and work again.

All you need to get is a steering wheel cover. I have a 2012 and I love it to death. I would rather have a badass engine with no controls working than the old engine and the older interior design. IMO... And yeah that has nothing to do with the engine

This is the reason I bought a 2010 with no upgrades at all. The more electronics the more problems there are.
