To buy or not to buy 2011 to 2012
So of course when I bought my 11 2 DR Sport it was bought as a play toy. My DD was our 09 Pilot EXL. With two kids 4 years old and 20 months they fell in love with the jeep and the wife well we won't go there.
I previously had a 2000 Sport that we played around in and going from a 2000 to 2011 I was blown away. Blown away enough that I sold my pilot and have been driving my 2dr sport as my DD. now yes it's a pain getting the kids in the back seat and luggage room ? Ha ha that's funny. Tried the hitch carriers which didn't work but we've managed. Plus my wife has a 4dr accord so when needed we take that if we have to haul a bunch.
The power from the 3.8 suckssssssss but many of you said drive it some because it's almost like they govern the motor down till so many miles from new. This is looking like a true statement since 4,000 miles and I feel like I have more power. Heck I can use 6th gear sometimes now.
Regrets - I wish I would have got the connectivity option, u connect, 3.73 ratio and power windows and locks.
My last regret is maybe I should have bought a JKU but back then my wife would have left me for sure if I brought one of those home and still owning the pilot.
So.......
I've had my eye for the past week on a 2012 JKU same color manual tranny but this one has the 24s ? Package, hardtop max towing limited slip power options connectivity package 3.73 ratio side steps (which I prefer the rock rails) for 30,950 msrp and the dealer said he'd drop it down to 28,900 plus tax tag title.
But he wants to give me 20k for my 11.
Sticker was 24,600 I paid 24,000 OTD delivered with the dealer being 5 hours away.
I added the tinted window package for the 11 which is expensive as hell, rubi rock rails, kicker upgrade front speakers, rubi shocks, tow hitch and wiring fuel door and muffler tip.
Payoff is 20,900 so I can't complain too much but this just doesn't sound like a great deal let alone a deal period.
So what else am I missing. That's alot of money nearly 10 grand more for what ??? Just that little more ?
I know I could sell my jeep privately for I would think 21 or 22k
So let's here some other people's thoughts.

Get the 2012
Get the 2012 Unlimited and don't look back.
You would have spent the extra money a year ago had you got rid of the Pilot earlier.
Yes you can get more than $20,000, you have to figure the dealer is going to sell it for at least $23,000 if not a little more for your upgrades.
But move quick, it sounds like you are a manual transmission guy, so maybe consider a 2011 manual transmission, at least you'll get the $1,000 rebate and/or the 0.0% APR. If you can swing the payment take the 0%, that should save you $17/$1,000 financed or $3400 on $20,000 financed or $5,100 in finance savings on $30,000 financed. Really! you are only talking about a difference of $5,000 if you went that route. And as most will testify if you are a manual transmission guy most won't notice the difference. If you are going for an automatic to allow the clutch challenged an option to drive it...I'd suggest trading her Honda too Then you can keep the 2DR and She can have the 4DR

Many dealers don't care about the after market addons and will not include those in the price they quote you. If they fit the 2012, and most will... then ask the dealer if you can keep or even swap those parts out.
I realize not all your mods can be swapped... but some can.

Been down that road with getting her out of the accord into a jeep. Still trying to teach her to drive manual but careful not to encourage her too much since I don't want her taking over my jeep. She didn't like the new grand cherokees too much.
Interesting over the figures. Id want a 2012 for sure because of the new engine.

So wow what a past couple of days. I finally test drove a 2012 JKU automatic. Wow !!!! Crap!!!! What a giant difference with the new engine.
So..........my main reason for not getting an auto with the 3.8 is due to the lack of power.
Well I test drove a Sahara JKU AT and loved it but they only wanted to give me 19k for my JK so no and that's for a local dealer.
So back to the TN dealer. Due to the end of the month he is willing to seller me a 2012 JKU Sport with the 24s hardtop, max tow 3.73 hardtop automatic connectivity option power everything Sirius side steps for his dealer cost not invoice. The MSRP is $32040 and he's going to be around 28 to 29 plus he's willing to give me 20,500 for my jeep only leaving me $400 upside down. And 72 months with US Bank at 2.4%
I believe I'm going to buy this one. Waiting for the exact final numbers in the morning.
He said they are one unit away from making there bonus for the month.

I not sure how it works in SC but here in PA, if the dealership gives you $20k for a trade in, you don't have to pay sales tax (6%) on that $20k if you buy a new vehicle........which would be $1200........which would be equivalent to getting $21,200 on a personal sale. Just FYI.
IMO you pick up some major advantages with a JKU over just a JK, especially if you have kids. Obviously more space, the seats fold flat when not in use (REAL NICE), the max tow rating goes to 3500lbs (I think), etc.
Good luck with your decision......I would trade in the 11' before it drops anymore in value.

Yeah in SC they limit the tax to $300 max so I have to pay that if the other vehicle is over I think 6k
Sucks
Yes so much more room the in JKU so ya if all works well I'm going to do it

I Did It!!
I had a new 11 jku and put only 2300 mi. and traded it in on a 12. What a huge difference I know I lost about 8000.00 but it would just be more if I waited.
