changing your oil and warranty...?
Just wondering if anyone knows the details of weither or not changing your own oil could come back and bite you in the ass if you have engine trouble. I've always been told to make sure i keep my reciepts from oil changes...so i dunno? Thanks!
If you change your own, keep a log book and record each one faithfully. I read elsewhere that if the manufacturer ever tried to deny an engine-fault warranty claim based on you changing your own oil, they'd have to prove neglect and/or wrongdoing on your part. Meaning: They'd have to have an oil analysis done, to see if you were running the oil too long, were using the wrong grade, etc. I don't think you'd have any problem in this area - just keep faithful records, and make sure to follow the owner manual's recommendations. Kudos on doing it yourself!
This is the log for my Jeep and I have taken a copy of a similar database when I traded my previous cars and was honored by the dealer...
