Default Changing your own oil may void warranty

I emailed Chrysler to see if me changing my own oil could have any effect on the power train warranty and here is their official response.

Dear Michael:

Thank you for contacting the Chrysler Customer Assistance Center
regarding your 2009 Jeep Wrangler.

We have reviewed your email concerning your inquiry about the warranty.

In response to your email, we do not recommend servicing your vehicle on
your own as any concern arising due to the service performed may void
the warranty. For more information, we suggest that you contact your
dealership, as they are the best resource for this information.

Thanks again for your email.

Sincerely,

Lisa Parker

So take it to Tire Kingdom etc. As long as you have records showing Date - Mileage - and all Manufacturer Warranty requirements were followed when you had the service done - you should be covered. If you change your own oil - are you going to change your own Transmission fluid, Differential fluids etc? If not - You're not saving a lot of money - doing it yourself.

Yep just as thought, they are going to find any way possible to get out having to cover a Lifetime Power train Warranty. Either way I'm changing my own oil and using my brand.

They said exactly what I would expect them to say. "Any concern arising due to the service performed" means if you do your own service and, say, bugger up the oil drain plug threads - you are on your own. They can't really "void THE warranty", implying you do one thing and the whole warranty is nullified, because striping the oil plug threads has nothing to do with a defective sun visor (as an example). You are protected in that regard by, dare I say it - the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

That's a good way to "UPSELL" the dealership services. Of course I have to drive an hour to find a dealer around here as they have all closed up.

I'm guessing the 4 inch lift kit I installed pretty much finished my warranty off. I have always changed my own oil. I'm not waiting in a dealership lounge for nothing. It is degrading. My approach this time is build it better when it breaks.
