I think that the asthetics of a Jeep has always been form over function, and anything that doesn't follow that tenet will look out of place, whether it be chrome, aero, or whatever. We all put things or our Jeeps that are really just for looks, I have no real expectation that my taillight guards will actually guard my taillights against anything, and I don't know four people that would be willing to ride with me on a trail that would require the use of all four of my Mastercraft grab handles, but they look good because they fit the asthetics of the Jeep.

With all due respect I don't think that's a fair generalization to make. There's not one thing on my jeep that hasn't already been used, and most of the people I know are the same way. Even with your example of grab handles - I need the one on the driver's side to get into my jeep, and the one on the passenger side when I let my husband take the wheel because those rocks seem a lot bigger when I don't have my hands on the steering wheel.

Chrome looks nasty all scratched and beat up. If it's black, you can just take a rattle can to it and it looks like new!

All depends on how you use your jeep.

I wouldn't used the term "ghetto"
as I would, "It looks appears your wasting your Jeep on the the pavement. " I detest the phrase "bling bling" as I think it's a tad played out, as about 8 years played out. As played out as "gettin' jiggy (is that how its spelled) with it"

i don't even know what it means anymore.

If you're over 30 and saying any of the aforementioned phrases please stop.
it is. Im 26 and it's super- for me to say it.

So what were we talking about?? Oh, yes... chrome.

Yeah, chrome sucks!

I have never really been a big fan of chrome on any of my vehicles, including my Harleys. As it has already been said, "Do what you like. It's your Jeep."

Well, when i bought mine, right next to it was a really nice black X that had a khaki top and the chrome mopar parts, I thought it looked really nice but I just liked the steel blue better.

But, I've an older jeep around with chrome pipe looking bumpers, and all kinds of other mods and big nasty tires.. always liked the look of that one

Just wondered why some people don't seem to like chrome though

I have a bit of chrome on my Jeep. It is the emblem on the grille.

On a forum like this, you're probably going to see more bias against chrome because it is more aesthetic in nature, not utilitarian. Chrome scratches easily when off-road, chips in salted snow weather, and generally require more upkeep for the only reason of keeping them shiny.
As far as making our jeeps pretty, I admit that I matched my new wheels with the color of my jeep (black/silver...no, I am not a Raider fan), and got sturdy, powder coated wheels which, like said earlier, you can spray over in the event they do take a nick or two.

And Conrad...I'm 33 and really out of touch. So, would you please provide me with alternatives to words such as ghetto, bling bling, and gettin jiggy wit it? Also, is played out too played out these days? Just messin. Heck, I still use words like tinkle and poopy.

I like the chrome wheels on black jeeps, the black on black just seems like to much.....black, but that's my for what its worth opinion.

As stated, do what you want. You're the one driving it, making the payments and having to come up with the cash for the mods.
