I know exactly what you mean. I still get that.

What youre feeling (seat of the pants) is the VVT or Variable Valve Timing...theres another "kick" at 4200 rpm too.

I'm not a fan of having the engine at high RPM's. I usually shift at about 2K - 2.5K RPM's and even go to 6th as often as possible. It sure makes for great MPG's.

I had replaced my air filter around 2k with a K&N air filter... the first tank after the change I got around 18.4 MPG (combined)... the second tank after the change I got right at 18.9 MPG (combined)... I'm anxious to see if I can squeeze out a little more in the MPG with the third tank of gas. I think the fact that its probably more broken in after the 2000 miles helps too.

The 3.6 VVT is impressive......more than enough power even with bigger tires
I added the AIRaid CAI and throttle spacer setup and a Gibson dual tip exhaust 3 weeks after I took delivery........My MPG on the highway is between 18.2-18.8 staying at 2000rpms/68-70mph......2012 JKU 5 spd auto 3.73 gears 35" Toyo's

I bet your jeep sounds pretty good then. Did you add all of that before the 35s? I was wondering how much difference all of that really made because it might just be my next mod

After the lift/tires......The sound of the exhaust is smooth .......but gets downright throaty when you step into it.......no drone sound at all while driving normal......I'm extremely happy with my setup and my MPG is better than i expected given all of what i've added on.

Cheers

didnt say you had to, and i do the same - but its nice to know the power is there when / if you need it.
these motors dont mind being rev'd, its kinda like my duc & guzzi - they dont come alive until your into the power band.

See... I spoke with a local Jeep Service person about lifts and the talk migrated to CAIs and he told me that even if the shop installed a MOPAR one... and I were to get particulates into the motor my warranty would be voided because of the CAI (even if its a Mopar one installed by the Jeep dealer etc.). But really that seems a bit ridiculous right? I'm trying to understand how much less protection would you have from a well-designed CAI over the stock air filtration system?

I mean I can understand the CAI having a bigger filter and therefore more air flow ability but unless its a shoddy filter or the intake has leaks in it after the filter... I would think the chance of getting particulates into the motor is still there even with the stock filter system.

Anyways... sorry to get on a soap box... I am starting to think towards a CAI again after reading your performance numbers.
