What youre feeling (seat of the pants) is the VVT or Variable Valve Timing...theres another "kick" at 4200 rpm too.

I'm not a fan of having the engine at high RPM's. I usually shift at about 2K - 2.5K RPM's and even go to 6th as often as possible. It sure makes for great MPG's.

I had replaced my air filter around 2k with a K&N air filter... the first tank after the change I got around 18.4 MPG (combined)... the second tank after the change I got right at 18.9 MPG (combined)... I'm anxious to see if I can squeeze out a little more in the MPG with the third tank of gas. I think the fact that its probably more broken in after the 2000 miles helps too.

I mean I can understand the CAI having a bigger filter and therefore more air flow ability but unless its a shoddy filter or the intake has leaks in it after the filter... I would think the chance of getting particulates into the motor is still there even with the stock filter system.
Anyways... sorry to get on a soap box... I am starting to think towards a CAI again after reading your performance numbers.
