cleaning roll bar pads
Has anyone put their roll bar pads in the washing machine?
I was thinking very little soap in a full tub of cold water on gentle cycle.
What do you guys think? They're very dusty... Red Georgia clay dust.
Any other ideas? I just dont want them to fade too bad.

Mine are faded... My buddy has some on his YJ that are made by Bestop and the material feels more like our soft top. They don't fade and do not soak up water like a sponge.

I recently read on another forum that a few people have tried washing them and hanging them out to dry, but the problem wasn't so much that they are dirty (I'm sure mine are) but that the sun has faded the color and washing them did not improve the look much.
The solution seemed to be spray painting. One guy did it with some normal household black spray paint and another did it with Dupli Color fabric spray paint. Said that was the best way to go.

The problem is... if you bump them you get red dust everywhere, on clothes, hands or what ever.
For those who have tried it what are the results???
I'm alright w/ the fabric spray idea if they fade. But, I'm not too keen on the idea of spraying
over dirt.
Well, my idea, after washing was to put them back on a slightly damp, w/ hopes they dont shrink

if it's more of a dust than mud, I would recommend that you take them off one at a time and take the air compressor to them. You could probably get them very clean that way and placing them back on would be a cinch.

I'll just spot clean the few mud splatters. Thanks !!
BTW, I pulled all the carpet out, squirted them w/ a 20/80 solution of Tide and water, then rinsed them off w/ a hose.
They turned out great! (and smell good too!)

I washed a set on my TJ. The foam fell apart. I painted them with Duplicolor Cloth and Vinyl and they looked like new. If you wash, make sure that it's a gentle cycle.
