confusion
today i got my leveling kit put on my jk. before i was averaging around 13.2 mpg...now it has dropped down to around just 10mpg. why so big a change? i didnt think the kit would effect it at all?
keep in mind, im running 35s with 4.10s. only a 2.5inch lift and a CAI.
before my mods with just the CAI i was gettin close to 20...
anything i can do?
and would puttin on 5.13s help with fuel?
and i have not recalibrated the jeep's computer so could the mileage its giving me be off?
sorry for all the questions, but thanks for any input

Did you put the lift and tires on today, or already had the tires and lifted for more clearance? The mass, rolling resistance, and wind resistance of the tires will obviously make a huge difference. The lift will also decrease mileage because of the added wind resistance of the jeep itself, as well as exposing more frontal area of the tires.
Absolutely the computer and speedo will be off if you have not recalibrated the system.
And yes, regearing to get back in the sweet spot of the motor will help.

The Jeep's computer is not a reliable source for gas mileage. It is averaging the mileage over some long distance--certainly hundreds of miles at a minimum. On top of that, if you haven't recalibrated your speedometer, then it's working off a false premise (incorrect tire size), and therefore giving incorrect readings. If you want to know your gas mileage, you'll have to do it the old fashioned way (mileage driven/gas bought). And, that will vary with weather, speed, road conditions, gas quality, etc. So, if you really want to get a reliable answer to "did my lift affect my gas mileage" question, you'll need at least several tankfuls before and after, with no other changes, and driving in what you think are similar conditions with the same quality gas. Then, and only then, can you say that you lost gas mileage with the lift (yes, you probably did theoretically, but it's minuscule).
I installed the TF level kit this past spring and can now say that I definitely took a hit on my highway(avg 75 mph) mpg from around 21 to 19. As expected my city(under 55 mph) mpg hasn't changed much if at all which is where most of my driving is done.
You will need to get the spedometer calibrated because if I go off of my mileage I get 13 MPG but if I use my GPS for a tank and use the trip meter on that I get 18. I have 35s with 2.5" lift cai.

If I did 100% highway driving I could get closer to 16mpg. But I definitely averaged about 13 MPG regularly.
