Default Dealer markups!

Holy crap, I have been on vacation in Tampa, and a Jeep dealer in town had a "Lift Package" add on sticker. It included a 4" lift, Pro-comp 16" alloy wheels, and 35" BFG A/T's. Their "Bargain" price for that package: $9,000. I couldn't believe it. It made the price of a 2 dr sahara $34,000!

The dealer in my city does the same thing. They had a 2-dr. X for $35,000 and a 4-dr. Sahara for $40,000. They had lifts, wheels, tires, winch, lights and bumpers on them. I could hardly believe it when I saw the 2-dr. X driving around town. Someone actually bought it! They could have built the same Jeep for so much less. Some people must have a good chunk of money to waste.

Good freakin god....

...I'll admit I bought my X with the lift, wheels, tires, and a bunch of mopar acessories from the dealer just because I wouldn't have been able to pay for it out of pocket and it was nice to be able to finance all the good stuff with a 4.99% interest rate.

I know I overpaid (6,990 for all the extras that when I added them up came up to about 4,500) but if I hadn't of done it I'd still be riding stock.

I see it quite often, the most expensive one ive seen is the NO FEAR titans. 15,000 addition and you dont get the original equipment that you originally payed for.

In my area a Rubicon 4 door was a scare commodity and the dealers were adding anywhere from $5000 for a pair of mopar bumpers and another was putting $10,000 worth of add ons.

So I told them to keep it. I wanted a stickshift and they were automatics anyway. So, I bought an X and put a Dana 44 front axle from Mopar in it for $1479; with a $27,000 sticker for my X I still have money in the bank

I went by a Dealership the other day to look at a Sahra and they had mark-ups for an Alarm (Sahara has one, and theirs was no more than the stock one), Tinted windows (uhm, duh, stock on a Sahara) & pinstriping (really looked stupid), total extras were $3000.

The dealerships must prey on the uninformed. My dealership does the same thing and they sell them like hot cakes.

Well we all know the "stealerships" are in the business of making money. There is always someone willing to spend all their disposable income any ways. The way to get the dealership to put that on is to go see the parts deparment and buy the kit after you buy your Jeep. I am having my dealer install a lift and tires for $1400 which is very comparable to all the local aftermaket shops and none of my warranties are voided by having the dealer do the install.......Just my $.02 worth here......
