Big oil is dragging its feet with sulfur free diesel. Big oil is dragging its feet and preventing alternative source. All about $$$ and lobbying.

If diesel takes less money to refine than gas from oil, why does it cost more?

Higher taxes is my guess. I've often wondered that myself.

Not the taxes. Corporate profits.

Lower quality. It costs less to make lots of somthing a bit more involved then it does to make a little of something less involved.

Profit margins.

If overhead is high, and you sell a large amount, then profits are high. (today w/ gas)

If overhead is low, sell large amount at high cost, make a killing in profit. (deisel today in Europe)

If overhead is low, sell small amount at high cost, high profit. (deisel today in USA)

If overhead is low, sell small or large amount at LOW cost, low profit. (deisel today if consumers were not raped)

Diesel can be sourced by fossil fuel, agriculture, algea, recycled cooking oil.

I agree. That would be nice.

Gotta remember here in New Zealand we have had the option of a 2.7 CRD in non Rubicon JKs since the beginning . Is a fairly agricultural sounding unit, has more torque than the 3.8 petrol but less hp. Also comes with a five speed auto rather than the normal four speed.

Don't get TOO excited just yet. When I bought my WK (Grand Cherokee) back in 2005/6? there was an option for a CRD. Never made it into the Wrangler, despite a brand new model coming out in 2007.

Where is the thought it is destined coming from?
