Default Diesel JK... WHY?

Someone do the math for me please. Why all the fuss over wanting a diesel in a JK? Regular unleaded is 3.29 a gal. Diesel is 4.00 a gal. Will it save you money in the long run. and don't forget to add in the extra cost up front of a diesel.
thanks jeff

It's nice to have options, I guess.

Better torque, for one.
Often diesel gets better mileage, depending on the vehicle.

Its not going to save you money at the pump but the motor will last twice as long. And a lot more torque

Also keep in mind that vehicles with Diesel engines are excluded from the Lifetime warranty, atleast that's how I interpret it.

From my point of view:

Upfront Engine option cost added
Higher per gallon price of fuel
No lifetime warranty (yes, even diesel engines have problems, especially new designs)
Can't siphon gas to/from your rig to get you or someone else out of the trail in an emergency.
And that horrible smell... (just kidding I own a diesel truck and I love it)

Those are the reasons I didn't wait.

It would be possible to squeze 30MPG out of one, and I make biodiesel so my fuel would be free.

Torque is the main reason I want one. If you think a gas JK is awesome off road, you would be amazed what the torque of a diesel when crawling. Just thinking about it makes me excited of the prospect of a diesel JK. Make mine a Red Rock 2 door Rubicon.

I bought my Jeep to wheel. Low end torque is your friend offroad. If a Diesel option was offered, I'd buy it.

If your concerned about milage then buy a Yaris.
