I used Royal purple at first, then I could no longer find it in my area, so now I used Mobile 1.

I got an unopened 5 gallon pail at an auction for $10 It meets the GL-5 spec so all is good. It was even the correct weight for my needs.

I've heard arguments in favor of dino oil in the diffs. Something about better "tackiness" to the gear set, and better handling of the immense pressure between the surfaces of the gears. This is basically third party info at this point, so please take it for what it's worth. Perhaps just might be something to follow up on.

I've actually started to get suspicious of synthetic oil in my diffs. I seem to have a strange propensity to get axle seal leaks in my diffs in various vehicles - and I'm a big user of synthetic gear lube. Seems things are ok for x-amount of time, but ~months later after changing diff fluids, leaks develop. The same person who mentioned dino oil above, also stated this generally about synthetics in the differentials. My situation could be totally environmental or use-related, but it made me think a little.

Yeah that is something to consider and its one reason I don't like using syn oils in older cars. .... it always starts to leak from somewhere.
