Default Doorless with infants & toddlers?

On my way home yesterday I spotted a nice rescue green JKU on the freeway sans doors with two little kids in the back. They appeared to be about the same age as my kids (2 and 5), and the younger one was totally passed out with his head and body shifted towards the opening.

I gave the guy a puzzled (not dirty) look and he floored it to 80mph, if not more.

Is this even legal?? I've gone doorless with the kids, but only into town to get ice cream and would never venture on the highway or even more than a mile away from home. Is it only me?

If they were in well secured child safety seats, I would. Wether the wife would let me is another story.

My YJ was my daily driver when my son was born and she wouldn't let him ride in that until he was 3+yrs old. "you'll hit a bump and he'll pop right out" was all I heard.

I had a TJ when our first was born and would run topless with her in the back, and it didnt occur to me at the time that I was doing something wrong.

I guess I kinda wigged out when I saw the doorless JKU and their little feet dangling in the wind.

I don't remove the back doors, when the kids are in it with me. The do make me roll down the windows though, LOL.

I agree - front doors off is fine. I'm just paranoid with their doors.

That's why I want some mopar rear half doors for when i have the kids with. Otherwise its all off with only me or all on with them. I think it looks goofy with full doors off up front but still on out back.

Reminds me of the good ol' days when my mom would drive with me sitting on her lap. I think it's one of those things that sounds bad on paper, but really isn't that bad. Strap em in and hope they don't throw anything out. You should be able to tell pretty quick if the kid doesn't like it.
