If all you are doing is rinsing the salt off from the beach then use the sprinkler. For mud a pressure washer is almost a requirement.

I think it depends on how long you run the sprinkler. I haven't tried it yet, but think that mud would come off after a 20 min cleaning.

Yup. I used a sprinkler on my TJ when I lived in Minnesota. That mud was hard to get off. I'd put it under there and move it ever so often. It loosened everything off and what didn't come off by gravity was then easily sprayed off by the hose.
