Be careful what you wish for.

Got the Jeep back yesterday after a new engine install. After a fight to get them to replace the battery, I did as good of an inspection as could be expected without tools before leaving the dealer. I thought that something looked out of place. It appeared a bolt was missing from the starter. I'm not sure if there is even supposed to be one there, but it sure looks like it had one before. Another bolt on the bell housing looked a little loose since you could see light between the mating surface and the washer. Might have been just an imperfection on one or the other but, I noticed it. Anyway, I need to get a microfiche and check if there's supposed to be a bolt in the starter there..... or if someone knows for sure feel free to comment. A couple pics for reference. It's the bolt hole in the middle. The backside is threaded, bell housing reamed and there is also a corresponding hole in the starter insulation that you can see is folded up behind the bolt hole.... which is how the insulation is attached. >

what happened to ur engine?
For the short story... header bolts broke and ex. manifold fell off - dealer fixed - multiple trouble codes as soon as I got it back - they diagnose and claim I need a tune up - do tune up and Jeep catches fire - they claim cam walked in bearing surfaces and blocked lubrication holes starving engine of oil - they put in short block and a lot of other crap.

You don't understand. The wife has already given her blessing for a Hemi swap when the minivan motor goes.

On my 2004, I had a hole in piston #6 at 13k miles !! They gave me a short block, I wanted the whole engine as I questioned HOW a hole got in the piston.

Sure enough, about 6 months later, 'something' happened to some of the valves (I don't remember exactly) and I was given a new head !!

All covered under warranty BUT, both times I got an extra 3 to 5 hundred dollar charge for them having to remove my winch and OBA !!

Engine runs great to this day !

Can't be absolutely positive about it, but that looks like predetonation. It can be pretty nasty. $500 to pull and remount a winch huh? Sounds like a dealership. You can bet that Jeep hasn't gotten any better about admitting responsibility or wanting to sidestep costs anywhere they think they might be able to get away with it. When looking over the repair order, I stumbled onto this line at the bottom. Had nothing to do with anything that they worked on.

Reminded me of another stunt they pulled about 6 months ago. This was written and xeroxed on every service order sheet in their service dept. when I went to get an oil change. Can you imagine if someone signed that and later had a problem.? >

Starter doesn't have a third bolt. The stater install looks correct.

Thank you very much sir.

On another note.... when idling the Jeep will stumble a couple times until finally, it dies. Got to be an issue with the ECU. All the hard parts are new. New plugs, plug wires, coil, cats, O2 sensors, everything.
