So far I've been lucky with the JK, but my TJ took a beating as well, just a simple fact of Jeep ownership.

If your paying for windshields you need your head examined,, check your ins. co,, they offer some kind of extra protection on glass.. I had a $100 ded on glass,, I went to $0 ded and it cost me a whole $7 a year.. I did it on both our vehicles and have used this several times now,, and I have St. farm,, My Mom has nationwide,, hers costs her $11 a year to change,, and my sister had allstate,, that cost $27 on 3 vehicles as a package.. if you already carry full collision coverage which is required by banks for the loans,, the add on is not that much.. you are 99% to the 100% glass coverage,, just call and get it..
I drive 120 miles a day to work,, I had 4 windshields in my TJ,, 3 in my Tahoe, 2 in my firsrt JK(07) and now 20k on my jk 08 original glass,, but I've takin some nasty direct hits with rocks/cinders and ufo's.. I think the 08 has thicker glass than the 07 did..
So to keep from spending good money call your ins provider...
And while your at it,, make sure your under and uninsured coverage matches your liability,, its to protect you in case some old bat that has st min ins hit you..

cheap deductibles on windshields is a regional thing here in Canada. I know they are high in Alberta due to the sheer amount they replace out there.

In the US you have glass coverage with comprehensive,, which is required by the loan holder.. the cost difference in glass ded is very minimal and most people do not know,, kind of like towing ins.. cost $5 per year and covers up to a $1k tow bill if you want it towed several states back home,, you can do that,, just pay and then get a reimbursement check in the mail..
I do not know what the ins deals you guys have up in the frozen North have going.. its a different world up there..

with my insurance here in Edmonton, I think I pay $27/year for the extra glass coverage, and that gives me a $25 deductible to repair chips, and a $50 deductible to replace the entire windshield.

Not as cheap as some places, but still way better than eating the cost of a windshield on my own...especially if it's going to be something I have to do on a semi-regular basis.

When I lived in Fort Mac I was with AMA and had to buy a seperate glass policy through some other company because AMA didn't offer coverage, it was like $150 a freakin year. Moved back to Nova Scotia this past summer, not only is glass coverage included in my policy but my insurance is over $700 cheaper!

That's odd, I'm with AMA and like you said, the glass coverage is through a 3rd party company, but $150 a year is crazy!

How long ago was this...maybe it's changed since you were out here?
