However, that Jeep is pretty decked out. You can't compare a stock FJ Cruiser to a JK with a 4" lift and 37s.

When I did the JOHN BULL in Big Bear in Feb I was stuck behind an FJ for an hour that Basicly winched its way along the whole trail. It was the TRD Off road or whatever. We stopped and had lunch and they had moved approx. 50 yds. When I finally had space to pass I got around and never looked back. I think those poor guys are still there, oh yeah and i am sure they are out of beer. I better go back and help 'em out.

I would venture to say that all the people trding in their new 07/08 FJ's for JK's would disagree. My buddy who is a GM at a Chrylser dealer said he got 6 FJ trade-ins in one month. What did they want???? JK Rubicon!!!!

Now i have to be honest, of the vehicles that Toyota has produced the FJ is light years ahead in terms of off road, but it is no jeep. The H3, give me a break, maybe in the desert on flat sand no rocks..... How about those elect. discos and front and rear lockers and ultra low gear TC oh yeah that is the Jeep never mind.

just haven fun with all of you, but what do you expect this is a JK-Forum..HA..HA..HA

IFS is great for desert trucks that haul ass accross the desert. (that's why the racers use them) A solid axle is great for rock crawling. (That's why the crawlers use them). It depens on what it is you are building and what you are using your rig for. There is no doubt that a solid front axle (like the JK) will give you substantual more articulation and flex whech results in Better traction and more stability.

Watch how flat the FJ and the H3 stay in the off-camber parts that would have Wranglers exhibiting a lot of unnecessary drama.

Here's a pic from my last Moab trip. It's a Cherokee attempting the same obstacle that the H3 walked right up. You can't imagine how incredibly steep this obstacle is--it's near vertical in a few places. There's no backing down this obstacle. It would definitely challenge anything without lockers.

It probably sounds like I'm a hater, but I'm really not. I'm merely asserting that there's a time and a place for IFS.
What did you do, go find one good video of an IFS rig completing an obstable, then go search for 2 or 3 vids of Jeeps rolling the same obstacle? I'm sure there are 100+ Jeeps (and other solid axle rigs) that've completed those trails for every 1 IFS rig that has.

Just a thought... how do you get back DOWN those obstacles? Same way you came up? I don't know about youse guys, but going down crap like that is IMO infinitely more difficult (way higher sphincter factor) than going up.

Well I had to prove my point somehow, didn't I?

Let's see... There are Libertys, Grand Cherokees, Commanders, Patriots, 4Runners, FJ Cruisers, Tacomas, H1s, H2s, H3s, Xterras, Land Rovers, Explorers, Rangers, Touaregs, Chevy trucks, Dodge trucks, Ford trucks, Toyota trucks..... With a few modifications, all of these vehicles can do pretty much any trail in Moab, despite having IFS. And to be honest, not many people need much more capability than that.

Most of the trails in Moab are one-way. No back-tracking required. If you tried to go down Escalator backwards you would do a nosedive while simultaneously crapping your pants. A 4-door MIGHT be able to do it backwards, but it would scrape butt the whole way down and probably dislocate the spare tire.

Go up a steep obstacle and all you can see is blue sky...
Go down a steep obstacle and the only thing holding you in place is your locked seat belt...
IMO both are equally scary.
