Gas Mileage?
I'm 1200 miles into my 4 door X manual, and I'm averaging 13 mpg around town - is that what everyone else is seeing, or do I just drive it too hard?
I'm loving my first Jeep - the top has been down in some fashion 25 of the 30 days.

I'm guessing you drive it too hard. That is what I got the first 2 tanks in town. When I eased off the gas & started coasting into red lights I got up to 17.5 in town. Is it hilly where you are? It's somewhat hilly where I am, and that really eats into the MPG.

at a little over 600 miles I'm getting 17.8 in the city only.but this is south fl. and we have no hills and are at sea leave and I'm not beat on it to much.

16.9 - 17.5 90% back & forth from work / 10% highway. Having way to much fun driving it, don't really look at it anymore. Diving this thing is a real driving experience.

What is your traffic like. My son's first tank of gas on his TJ was 16.5 city only. He started driving to school, stop-start, sitting in line at the lights near school; 10MPG ever since.

Before you guys hate me, first let me say I truely love the JK, I plan on buying one probally a 4 dr. Rubi. But if you are expecting great gas mileage you bought the wrong vehicle. Count your blessings if you are getting in the upper teens for gas mileage and if you ever plan on lifting it and putting on bigger tires watch those numbers go down down down, even if you regear. Remember it is a brick on wheels, and short of a H2, H3 or School bus, there could not be a less aerodynamic vehicle on the road, but I still love'em. Bad gas mileage is part of that "Jeep thing" and guys like me wait about six months for the used ones to start hitting the car lots because someone thought the would trade in their Honda Civic for a Jeep...then the discover the piss poor gas mileage.

Don't get me wrong - I'm in love. I'm not complaining about the mileage - I just thought that I was perhaps lower than the norm (and the posts here seem to indicate that I am a little low) No complaints and no worries.
It's been more than 10 years since I drove a stick, and I think that may be part of my problem (pushing the engine harder than need be...)

I'll chime in with RMeak a little here...The JK is not a Honda Civic (mine gets 40mpg) and I believe most buyers realize that when they buy it. But this is a 2007 vehicle, not a '70's muscle car that could get 18 to 20mpg back then. My 2001 S-10 Blazer gets 19mpg around town. My 2001 Chevy Duramax 1-ton, Crew-cab long bed dually gets 16 to 18mpg arond town and 10 to 12mpg with a 11.5 ft cab over camper on it. Why can't Jeep do better than hoping for 19mpg? DC has got to work harder on this. Yes the JK is "a brick" on wheels but that has little affect driving around town. Don't get me wrong either, I really like the JK and we are seroiusly considering getting one but I really hate giving EXXON and Chevron even bigger profits because DC can't do a better job about their milage.
