Let me tell you, today was the first day after I installed my spiderweb shade and finally took the top off, 105degrees in chicago and sunny all day. Half way through my drive home from work immediate sudden down pour and hail! I didn't even have anywhere to pull over on the side of the highway. Ten minutes later while driving through this crazy rain storm I got to a gas station and pulled my soft top up for some cover while I waited. All I had was my daughters small sweatshirt and i tossed that over my navigation radio to cover that. Everything else including leather seats, rubber floor mats, cup holders, were completely soaked like a pool.

After the sun came back out and another 10 minutes of driving the spiderweb shade dried out and most of the JKU was dried up. When I got it back in my garage I wiped everything down with some towels and everything seems fine now. The neoprine front seat covers seemed to work really well. I guess I should get the rear seat covers now too. I really wasn't planing to get completely soaked in my 2 week old JKU, but at least now I know what it feels like and what not to do in the future

FYI, All the electronics seem fine, but I would definitely not recommend doing this if you have the option to cover up right away

Default Midwest Storm

I got caught in a storm one night on the way home from work, 45 minute drive from KS to MO. I had doors off and no top on at all. Its been unregionally (not a word) hot here this year, 100+ in June. All my electronics still work, I had the plugs out and it still filled the footwells. My seats dried just fine. My only issue was that the wipers don't wipe off the inside of the windshield. Luckily I always have rags on me. Oh, the looks I got. I now carry my army wet weather gear in my toughbox I carry in the cargo area.

Is it just your radio, set up controls on the steering wheel that are not working, or do you mean your light controls, wipers, and turn signal controls?

You would have thought Jeep would have made things more waterproof.
I completely agree with you last statement. As a manufacturer who builds a vehicle with a removable top and doors it should be a no brainier to make the electronics relatively waterproof/sealed.

We all realize its not a boat but c'mon rain can be fairly unpredictable. Hell the news weather forecasters are wrong like 80% of the time.

Since Jeep doesn't seem interested in adding a little rain/moisture protection it would seem like a good opportunity for an aftermarket vendor to come up with a kit. Every JK owner I know would be a buyer.

Completely agree. If w decent kit were to come out to help weatherproof the dash area, i would buy it. For now, i might just go to home depot and look for some clear weather strip type stuff and see if that helps.

I have one of those that rides around with me every time the top / windows / doors come off.

These hot, humid Summers are too hard to predict when and where it will rain!

This happened to me today. The spiderweb shade top definitely does not cut it when it comes to keeping the rain out. 30% chance of rain, gorgeous out, went to band practice and then just as I was going to leave the sky opened up. It was flash flood, hard thunder. I booked ass to the nearest gas station canopy to get my top up. With it raining sideways the canopy was only minimally effective. I ran inside to grab something and snapped this pic. Then it started hailing. yay.
