Default Getting ready for below zero winter mornings

How are you preparing for those cold and frosty winter morning startups ?
I am thinking to install webasto fuel heater ( it`s just kind of too expensive with price being 2500 bucks ) and to use 0W40 oil.
Well known fact is that starting below freezing point causes enginewear equal to 300-400 mile drive.
Any other tips you have ?

Thank`s a lot ! I will but my work doesn`t allow me to do so yet !
In the meanwhile i will have to survive here in this frostbitten country.
But it`great offroading here, and to the east. After crossing russian border there is a territory unlike anywhere else. For example www.ladoga-trophy.ru etc to get an idea what it is really sometimes. Click "in english".

Might want to beware of that link up there. I clicked on it and my anti-spyware program blocked it saying that site is on their list as having spyware uploaded onto your computer. just my .02

I just had a remote starter installed on my Jeep from the dealership 2 weeks ago. It was like $360 total, but so far it works great but it has yet to be cold enough to really work it. But I had on my grand cherokee for about 1.5 year and it worked absolutely amamzing. When that thing got totaled I went 2.5 years without and it was terrible. But if you do get one all you have to do really is the night before set your heater the way you want it. I always set it on high and defrost and let it run for about 10-15 minutes before I get it in and was always nice and toasty and the ice off the windshield usually melted by then, if not it was nice and soft and came right off with the scraper.

I too had mine installed by the dealer and it is Grrreeeaaattt but here in MOntreal you cannot leave your vehicle running for more than 3 minutes in winter or you can get a hefty ticket ... although I have yet to see a cop watching people remotely start theirs vehicles ..... but I guess you never know!

The engine block heater is essential. If you get a remote start then get he one that will turn the vehicle on if the temp reaches a preset low. i had that on my Durango and it was great. You can set what temp and how long to run for (even 3 minutes if needed). It was a factory install on the Durango.

Another thing often overlooked is the battery. Someone makes a heater you install between the battery and tray. The colder the temp, the less cold crank amps you have.
