My wife and I were driving to Assateague Island to spend the day on the beach with our Jeep. It was a little after 7AM and we were driving topless and door less. I was being very mindful of my speed and set my cruise for 5 mph above the limit. (I know it's still over the limit, but we were still the slowest ones on the road).
We were driving down a particularly notorious section of Rt. 50, just before 611 where the road is divided by trees. There was one other car, about 6 lengths ahead of me in the right lane. I noticed a State Trooper coming up in the left lane. I bumped my cruise down a few mph.
He pulled up along side us and my wife asked if he was pacing us. It appeared he was so I bumped it down to 55 on the nose. He rode in the left lane, between me and the car if front of me for 3 or 4 miles.
All of a sudden he slowed down and moved in behind me and turned his lights on. i pulled over and as I was getting my license and registration I was thinking that the worst he could do would be to give me a ticket for 5 mph over the limit.
Strangely he walked up on my wife's side. Right away he said, "Don't worry, you didn't do anything wrong. I have a '98 Wrangler and I really like your cargo net."
We ended up talking for about 5 minutes. Before he left I handed him one of the Safari Straps business card I keep in my glove compartment and we shook hands. Maral and Hatch should be expecting an order from a MD State Trooper for a set of TJ nets.

I'm pretty sure that it's not really legal for him to do that. He's probably lucky you have Jeeps in common and that you're a nice guy. He should have probable cause for stopping anyone really, not just a curiosity about your accessories. Still, I'm glad it was a non-event for you.

Yeah, my wife and I talked about that after. Thinking it was an abuse of his authority. We really didn't mind though because it we love talking about Jeeps and it seemed like we'd end up with a fun story to tell. In hindsight, he may have been trying to decide whether or not to do it which would explain why he just hung out there for 3 or 4 miles.
