I have always been pretty polite and half of the time I got a ticket, which was usually knocked down a little bit with how fast i was really driving

I think being polite and respectful always goes a long way with the officers. I gotta agree though that you shouldn't admit doing wrong. That is an admission of guilt that they will wrtie into their supporting deposition and then you're done.

One of the things wrong with society today is nobody accepting responsibility for their wrong doings. The American way!

And never ask the person you stopped why you pulled them over

He probably wanted to comment on the tool rack.

Why not admit to how fast you were going? Does anyone actually think the officer will be any more willing to let you off for playing dumb?

I can say this, as an officer, I start my stops off polite. The rest is up to you. I always tell the driver why I stopped them and I ask for the license and I give them a chance to explain why they committed the violation or why their car is messed up (expired plates etc.) the attitude goes a long way. I have let people go about their business with suspended licenses all because of their attitudes. That is all it comes down to. I don't expect people to treat me like a god or anything, just have the same respect for me that I show you.

There are a lot of better LEO's out there than me, but thankfully the only people I'm stopping are usually military and dependents, and the deps give me the most trouble.
