hard to tell since they are 2 types of material... the second is definitly expanded aluminum... it has the larger intersections since it is made from an expanded previously solid sheet. the first is actually cut out of a solid sheet. i prefer the first material. but the vertical orientation of the second.

Mine look like the second pic, vertical, 18 gage steel. I used extra tie blocks to hold the extra weight but noticed yesterday that some of the blocks were comming off, maybe from the weather warming up too. I'm either going to redo them in black gutter gaurd or just leave them empty. ... I liked the bigger spaces on the steel vs. the small gutter gaurd.

Neither one looks bad, but I too find myself liking the Mr Grille Billet grille vertical look better.

That kit is expensive though compared to the build it yourself look, but on perusing the site linked via the build it yourself link, did not find a look that was quite like it either....so not sure whether pure visual appeal to me personally will win out, or $$$ and something close.

I agree with you. The billet vertical bars look best, so I decided to wait on the grill mod. The billet one is expensive so I am looking into finding a material that looks similar and I could do myself. Anyone have any suggestions?

I think mine looks the best. Just chicken wire painted black. It really just "blackens" the insides and dont really notice the wire the way you do with those other pics.

I used some aluminum mesh that I bought from a member of this forum, spray-painted it with some Rustoleum flat black, hit it with several coats of flat (no-gloss) Krylon clear coat, and then mounted mine vertically... looks very similar to your second pic, and I'm loving the look versus stock.
