JK TalkGeneral discussion forum regarding thoughts, opinions and rumors about the Jeep JK Wrangler or related subjects that don't quite fit in the Modified, Stock or Electronics forums.
Truck, 1/4 ton, General Purpose. or GP. If you made GP a word it would be pronounced Jeep. At least that's one of the theories as to where the name came from. I don't think anyone really knows.
no, no, NO. GP DOS NOT STAND FOR GENERAL PURPOSE!. GP is the ford name for there jeep prototype. and GPW was the name of the FORD standard World War II Army jeep. the G stands for government, the P stands for 80" wheel base Reconnaissance car, and on the GPW the GP was the same and the W stod for Willlys, because ford was makeing the willys desine 1/4 ton truck. on the data place and in the manual it is call "Truck 1/4 ton 4x4" or "G503" (just like the HMMWV is a M998) if you want to know what MB stands for on the WILLYS jeeps, the M meens miltary and the B mees 2nd desine (the MA was willys prototype, and a hybrid of the MA, GP, and BRC1 (the bantam prototype) is what became the standard World War II Army jeep.)
wave first if there's is modified, wave 2nd if its stock...
That's what I do now. I got discouraged by waving and having no response all the time. So for the stockers, I usualy just do a head nod. I know mine is stock and I shouldn't discriminate, but what can I say, I don't like rejection lol
