Default Help!!!!!

So my brakes were squealing like a stuck pig when I would brake slowly and sometimes while driving. I took it into the dealership and they said that the rear pads were worn down to 2mm!!!!!! Mind you, this is at 10,600 miles... They also said that the rotors were warped but that they were able to turn them? Enlighten me as to what that means... Can anyone tell me why the rotors warped and how to prevent this kind of crazy brake ware in the future??? Thanks in advance!

A warped rotor is normally caused by excessive heat. It is possible your brakes were stuck at some point in time......I am sure htere are other things that could cause it too......and for some reason a whole lot of folks are going through rear brakes pretty quick on these things.....I have been lucky as I have about 45k on mine and still have 8mm of pad left

Did you previously drive a Mini?? Rotors warp due to excessive heat buildup, this can be caused by bad pad/rotor combos or just bad driving habits. It is possible that the brake proportion is out of whack, how did the front pads look?

Zap, don't feel bad about having to replace the rear pads. I did mine at 16k but there are some on here that had less than 10k. The are a couple of good threads on here and 1 suggestion as to why this is happening that I tend to agree with.

When offroad in mud the ESP is applying the brakes to the rear wheels when the start spinning. Braking in combination with the mud is eating these brakes up. I know I play around alot in the mud and usually turn off ESP but I have forgotten a few times.
I replaced my rotors and pads myself for just over $100.

Thanks for the help everyone... I do turn off my ESP every time I leave the pavement cuz it does more harm than good off road, and this is just another fine example. The front pads looked fine with normal pad wear and I got the rears replaced under warranty (favorite dealership... the woman asked if I had been playing and then told me that if she had a Jeep she would definitely do the same ). But the part that I am really worried about is the rotors being warped, that is nooo bueno...

You can also warp your rotors by going in water. The heat from driving can make this happen as well.

Most of the time you turn warped rotors, it doesn't last long. They're warped, you need new rotors. They took the el'cheapo way out.

My wife's TJ's rotors got warped hitting a big standing water puddle at 55mph. Only the fronts though. Could feel the pulsing when you brake. Went to the auto parts store, $16 ea.to turn them or $30 for new rotors. No-brainer for me, delt with turning warped rotors on my CJ, they lasted about 3k before the pulse came back. Once warped always warped. Have no idea what JK rotors cost though. Can't be all that bad, not when it comes to safety.

When you say you turn off the ESP every time you go offroad do you actually stop and hold the ESP OFF button for seven seconds until the odometer reads ESPOFF? If you just tap the button the TCS turns off (represented by the orange car losing control on your dash). If you don't hold the button the ESP stays on but the TCS disengages.
