Hitch Safe
I use the hitch safe every day when I go surfing. It does have a rubber cap that covers the front so you can't tell. It is a little over priced but it is better than just putting the keyes in the gas door or some other random spot on the jeep. Even bashing it with a hammer to get it open would not work since you can only access the pins from the inside when the drawer is removed.
One more thing.
Since we have been on the subject of keys.
Does anyone know what is involved with getting a key copied?
I have automatic locks, factory 'alarm' etc. but when I get this Hitch Safe I will only want a simple key in there. Not a key with the buttons.
Will a hardware store be able to copy it or do I have to go to the dealership?

I was looking into getting a key copied that will not start the vehicle just open the doors. The reason is so I can keep the ignition key in my car and the door key in the hitch safe. I decided I would rather have my ignition key in the hitch safe (i call it that because it must have a chip installed in order to start the vehicle). With doors and top off sometimes, it is more secure in the hitch safe then it is inside the jeep. I think that might help answer your question
I have the HitchSafe also (got it free from work). It works great, but you do have to be careful when off-roading. I dropped into a big mud pit and didn't think much about it until 3 days later when I was cleaning the Jeep and tried to open the safe. The mud had sealed it shut and it took me a couple of hours to get it open
I wouldn't buy this hitchsafe just for the fact that some crackhead may see it and think that you got something valueable inside that they can hawk.
Pass on that product.
I went to an autoparts store and got a door key cut for my Rubi for 99 cents. I have it cabletied to my jeep. When I need it, I just twist the key, the cabletie breaks off. No tools needed.
Doesn't start the jeep, but it get's the doors open.
