Default Hood Dancing

Is it me or does the hood dancing up and down while driving at highway speeds make you nervous? Went to see the Bears play Green Bay yesterday and on the way home I was running into a pretty good head wind. My hood was almost constantly jumping up and down, and at times rising so high as to hit the safety latch. I could hear it banging on the safety snd this can't be good. I do have the air dam off of the bottom of my 08 X, took it off the hard way. Not sure if the dam would quiet down the hood dancing or if the safety needs some adjustment. Just wondered what you guys input might be on the situation.

this will give you a place to start It has come up quite a bit, use the search and you will find a lot more, and a few solutions also.

Default Nervous too!

Yea, that hood dancing sucks. Bought my Jk in June and of yet no real issues....just waiting for it to fly up into the windsheild that has a crack in it for no reason. (ya, Im still pissed about that)

Thanks for the fast replies, I should have done a search. Well I figured I would be the only one experiencing this, but it looks like every one gets it from time to time. Cross winds seem to be the worst, last night the winds were at about 45* to me. Pretty puckered at times. Seems like DC or an aftermarket manufacture could address this with a different latch.

Thanks again....

Here's the quickest, easiest way to fix it, and it's guaranteed to stop lift, even when meeting semi trucks that will damn near blow you off the road. Tighten the straps after the hood is latched, and the latches release as normal. The strap goes completely around the rubber link, NOT around any plastic....you have to string them thru'. Neither side has had to be replaced, they're holding up great, even in our currently FREEZING temps! If they ever break,, I'll go to stainless steel tie straps.

I'm going to try taking the hood spring off like the other thread suggests and see if that works. Mine has been doing it since we bought it in Oct, '06. None of the of my other Jeeps did it, so I'm sick of hearing other people say "It's a Jeep, they all do it." or "It's part of owning a Jeep."

Thumbs up

I went to the local hardware store and bought some 14 inch long zip ties. Made the "Mod" in just a couple minutes. Thanks for the tip....
