i have the mopar lock and like it very much. a) rubber flap keeps dirt out. b) keyed alike so i only have one key, same for gas lock as well. c)my key can come out in either locked or unlocked position. which more than one time i have left it unlocked for long periods because i got so excited to check out what i just finished and forgot i hadn't locked it. I got it when i bought it so now i might have a hard time paying the money for it but i do sleep well at night knowing that someone can't just open the hood and either take what they want or get in without me knowing. well thats if it didn't forget to lock it again.
Can anyone else with the Mopar lock do this? Mine will not allow it and that's the only complaint I've got about the thing.
Living in the city I need to get a hood lock. (When the bars get out I don't want some drunk showing off how they can open my hood)
I've decided on the Mopar lock but am debating if I should just pay the dealer to install it, or buy the riveter and do it myself.
Can someone link to the riveter on Harbor Freight?
How much are most dealers charging for install?

Hmm, I'm going to have to go see what I'm doing wrong then if I'm the only one who can't.
Edit: Even the directions on the Mopar Hood Lock say you cannot remove the key when in the unlocked position, so I'm not sure how you guys are taking your keys out when it's unlocked.
See page 3, step 11.

This is a terrible feature, not being able to remove the key in the unlocked position.

I am also able to remove the key in the unlocked position. Initially I thought this was a malfunction. If unlocked you can use a screw driver to turn it to the locked position (not sure why you would want to do this)
As to the rivets: The rivets are included in the lock kit. I looked everywhere in town to find a rivet gun big enough to no avail. Finally had my local body shop do it in about 10 seconds.

Ron, I'm not sure how everyone else who's got it has done it, but yesterday I went and did some testing after so many people said it could be done. What I came up with is, if you unlock the hood lock, then turn the key 1/2way back to locked, the lock will not be all the way up, but you can remove the key and the lock will not be locked. It's certainly not the same as being able to remove the key when completely unlocked, but any time I go to the dealers I will be unlocking it prior to bringing it to them, because I'm sure that someone there will unlock it, then to get the key out relock it and then at the end of servicing, simply slam the hood closed on the locked lock. Considering they flipped my AEV hood up onto my windshield, I don't think it's really a stretch to assume something like that might happen. lol
Knowing that I can keep the hood closed and unlocked even if I have to sort of cheat to do it, is good enough for me. Aside from that one problem, the lock is a very good quality and I really like having it keyed to the ignition.
