They are sort of like a falling tree, you can control which they tip to a certain degree, but you never know.

You need to chock wheels, place a tire/rim under the JK, jackstand it if possible everytime you use it. To this day, hasn't knocked over on a trail during a repair.

It pretty much comes down to operator error by those who don't know how to use them properly.

expect a few hairy moments but a quick learning curve.

Keep you face out the way of the handle (see gorey details on youtube) ; chock and rechock the wheels before + during lifting ; get rocks, logs or jack stands underneath asap, then continue lifting - when it tilts and falls better it settles on an object than part of you ; kids don't belong anywhere near one !!!

I still have all my bodily parts, but a few extra gray hairs since getting a hi-lift

maybe i'll just mount mine on the tire carrier since it looks so cool, then use one of those gay looking balloon jacks that you wrap around the exhaust to inflate.........

Man, I'm all about safety. Trust me. It's 95% of my job description.

That said, a hi-lift is completely safe as long as proper precautions are made. Would I jack up the Jeep with it and work underneath it without any backup? Of course not. I don't work under ANY vehicle that is only supported by a jack.

A hi-lift is a great tool to jack up the vehicle in order to place your jack stands (and one of your 37s for safety).

And it's a hell of a lot safer than using your scissor jack or bottle jack on top of a stack of 2x4s which is what I see way too many people do.

And yeah, they do look freakin' cool on a bumper.
